Status Report for November 29, 2008

Just a couple of post-Turkey-Day notes to pass along…
Penciling for Three-eyed Larry continues smoothly. I’m about 90% finished with drawing and digitizing all my image layers. There are a couple of changes to the layering I have yet to plug into the POV script, so I hesitate to say I’m officially ahead of schedule… but I have no problem with unofficially (wink-wink, nudge-nudge and all that)..
I installed a local copy of WordPress on my iMac and I’m turning it into a Goofy Graffix dashboard*. I used to have a notebook that did the same sort of dashboard-y things, but one day I left it out of the portfolio, and the next thing I knew it was six months later and the notebook was horribly out of sync. Annoying. Anyway, the whole thing is electronic now, and I’m scratching my head in puzzlement wondering why the hell I didn’t think of this earlier…
That’s all. I’m going to go back and wait for the Fedex guy to bring me my new drawing table light so I can finally see what I’ve actually been drawing — I’m sure the truth will be disturbing…
* I’ve heard of people using wikis and CMS software to accomplish the same thing. I chose WordPress because a) it’s free, and b) it’s the devil I know.

3-D Art: Mystery Fruit
Going for a colored-pencil sketchy sort of thing with POV. Took forever to figure out what I wanted it to do. Happy Three-D Turkey Thursday!

Sketches: Doodle Dump #14
More random stuff. The guy on the right looks like someone I worked for… or was it the robot on the left? Hmmmm…

Scary Monster Vs Lucky Frog Update #6: Back from Purgatory
Saturday night I sat down at the computer and began to sift through the charred bonepile of Scary Monster Vs Lucky Frog. Quite the mess, actually. Fortunately, I’m a firm believer in the power of duct tape, and I’m hopeful a few rolls of the magic elixar can Frankenstein it all back together…
Why now? The radiation levels have died down enough that I can approach this project without breaking into a cold sweat or spontaneously growing an extra appendage*. It’s not so much a case of time-heals-old-wounds, as it is my aggravation towards it is outweighed by my profound dislike of unfinished business.** You can also thank Three-eyed Larry for progressing in a spectacularly smooth and uncrappy manner. I always feel magnanimous when my movie projects avoid stinking up the litter box…
That all said, this jerkoff only gets promoted to “Saturday night” status, which is two rungs up the ladder from the lowest depths of Hell. “Saturday night” status means I only work on it — surprise, surprise — on Saturday night, after everyone has gone to bed and there are no more college football games or anime shows on Cartoon Network worth watching. Prime time projects like Larry get my love and affection during the work week; this bastard stepson has to win a knife fight with Checkbook Balancing before I’ll give it the time of day. It’s still on my ‘list’, and my list is not a place it wants to be…
When last I left it, most of the inking had been finished. There are still a few backgrounds that need inking and the whole mess needs color. I may do something different for the coloring phase, something experimental, or I might say screw it and do it like I’ve done before. Depends on how badly it pisses me off between now and Christmas…
*Actually, growing a couple of tentacles would be cool, but they’d be hard to fit for winter gloves…
**Are you kidding? I have guitar riffs and song ideas from 1991 I’m still holding out hope I’ll finish someday! I just can’t let things go…
